Fossil Bison skull found! Part !

After a bit of an absence due to a family emergency I managed to get out on the river for a couple of days. Yesterday I found my first bison skull of the year. This was found in western Iowa and just after the break up of the ice so the water was cold. I Kayak the rivers and during this time of the year I wear chest waders to insulate myself from the freezing water but it is sometimes a challenge with leaks.

The videos of the bison skull recovery are in two parts because I had to put my phone down in order to dig it out of the river bed. At some point I am going to have to figure out a very light tripod or some similar way to focus my phone on a recovery.

Ancient Human Remains.

We find ancient human rains several times during a season of hunting. The sheriff is called and they stop by to pick them up. Them the remains are turned over to an authority who repatriate them to a local tribe.

Found my first fossilized or heavily mineralized horse teeth during a Long Beach walk today.

Exploring the E Texas Gulf Coast

On the first day of my blog I am camping in the small Texas town of High Island. I have been here for approx 2 weeks enjoying the moderate weather and exploring the Crystal Beach area. So far I have had only a little success in finding the paleo fossils that this area is known for. My fishing success has been much better and I am catching a couple of large redfish. My plans are to remain here until the first week in March and then start moving north in the hopes of getting my kayak in the water and trying my luck amd finding more paleo bones.
